e-Governance
Solution
Electronic Governance is a synonym for an information technology-driven system of governance that works better, costs less and is capable of servicing people’s needs. It is broadly defined as the use of information for efficient delivery of government services to the people and to business and industry. Information technology opens up tremendous opportunities to provide basic government services to a much broader segment of the population at the optimal quality, time, place and cost.
Electronic Governance can be defined as giving Citizens the choice of when and where they access government information and services. Putting the Citizen at the center of government means taking a delivery channel view. This would mean using more and more of Electronics & Information Technology in many of the government functions.

Electronic Governance thus, is the application of Information Technology to the processes of Government functioning to bring about
Simple, Moral, Accountable, Responsive and Transparent Governance. This system will facilitate |
Transparency and effectiveness in government operations. |
To build government - citizen interface. So as to make citizens more interactive more aware and more participative. |
To build up a network among government departments, research institutions, social organizations and statutory bodies in order to drive away isolation and to bring in more coordinated approach. |
Easy dissemination of information to citizens, i.e. equality of access to information and administration to every citizen. |
Bigger role for people’s representatives. |
Single Window Clearance System in government business interface. |
Can be used for effective learning network by building up various knowledge bases. |
Greater and wider dissemination of information and chance for interaction with the people’s representatives and administration will give greater opportunity for people’s participation in the planning process and furthering stake in the development process. It will ensure greater transparency and better co-ordination among people and the administration. Increased awareness as a result of free flow of information among people, functionaries, people’s representatives and the administration will ensure qualitative transformation in the social, economic and political life of the State.
The objective of achieving Electronic Governance (EG) goes far beyond mere computerization of stand alone back office operations. It means to fundamentally change as to how the Government operates and this implies a new set of responsibilities for the executive, legislature and the citizenry. The effort should aim to bring about a social catharsis, which needs to be orchestrated in a comprehensive, concerted and planned fashion.
Electronic Government has emerged as one of the flagship applications with aspiration to employ multimedia and network technologies to re-invent the way the government works. This IT enabled government will ensure better transparency and services to the public.
